Capt. Joe Cacciola, a veteran Oceanside skipper, runs the Sea Star out of Oceanside Harbor, about 45 minutes north of San Diego, offering sportfishing charters since 1982. Private 5 and 8 hour trips fish for calico and sand bass, bonito, mackerel, barracuda, yellowtail, halibut, sheephead and rockfish, with tuna and dorado in warm-water summers and rockfish bottom trips in winter. Bait is included and rental Penn and Shakespeare tackle is available. The Sea Star also runs whale watching, eco tours, marine science trips and burials at sea.
