Introduction

Unreel Charters ("Unreel," "we," "us," or "our") operates unreelcharters.com, a directory that connects anglers with charter captains across the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the site, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Information you provide: your name, email, phone number, business details, and any content you submit when you claim a listing, contact a captain, or email us.
  • Account data: when captains create accounts, we store login email, authentication tokens, and subscription status.
  • Payment data: for Pro subscriptions, we use Stripe to process payments. Stripe handles your card details directly — we only store a Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
  • Usage data: pages you visit, referring URL, device type, approximate location from IP, and timestamps, used to understand traffic, improve the product, and deliver and measure advertising.
  • Messages: inquiries you send to captains through the site are stored to prevent abuse and produce reports for paid listings.

How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the directory and display charter listings.
  • To route angler inquiries to captains and to notify captains about their listings.
  • To process Pro subscription payments and deliver paid features.
  • To send transactional emails — confirmations, traffic reports, billing notices, and occasional product updates.
  • To detect abuse, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.
  • To analyze aggregate usage, improve site content and search, and measure how our advertising performs.
  • To show ads for Unreel Charters — including to people who have already visited the site — and to measure whether those ads work.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do share limited technical information with Meta for advertising, which California law treats as "sharing" — see the California Residents section below.

Sharing Your Information

We share information only with:

  • Captains you contact: when you submit an inquiry, we forward your message, name, email, and (if provided) phone number to the charter captain.
  • Service providers: Supabase (database and auth), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments), and Resend (transactional email). Each processes data only to deliver our service.
  • Meta Platforms, Inc.: through the Meta Pixel, we share the page you viewed, your IP address, your browser user agent, and the page that referred you, for advertising measurement and audience building.
  • Google LLC: through Google Analytics, we share the pages you view, your device and browser type, and your approximate location from your IP address, for traffic measurement.
  • Legal requests: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Business transfers: if Unreel is acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use a small number of first-party cookies to keep captains signed in. These are necessary for the site to work.

We also use third-party technologies for analytics and advertising:

  • Meta Pixel. We use the Meta Pixel, a product of Meta Platforms, Inc. It sets a _fbp cookie in your browser and sends Meta the page you viewed, your IP address, your browser user agent, and the page that referred you. We use it to measure how people find Unreel Charters, and to show ads for Unreel Charters to people who have already visited the site. This is cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, a product of Google LLC. It sets _ga cookies in your browser and sends Google the pages you view, your device and browser type, and your approximate location derived from your IP address. We use it to understand how people find and use the site.
  • Vercel Analytics. Aggregate traffic measurement. It does not set advertising cookies and does not build a profile of you.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Under California law, using the Meta Pixel for advertising counts as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. See the California Residents section below.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we do not load the Meta Pixel at all.

You can also disable cookies in your browser, though some features (captain login, dashboard) will stop working.

Your Advertising Choices

  • You can control the ads Meta shows you at facebook.com/adpreferences.
  • Enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser stops us loading the Meta Pixel at all. Blocking third-party cookies is weaker: it limits Meta's ability to match you across other sites, but it does not remove _fbp, which the pixel sets on our own domain.
  • Industry opt-out tools are available at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • You can email privacy@unreelcharters.com and ask us to stop sharing your information for advertising.

Data Retention

We keep captain account and subscription data as long as the account is active. When a captain deletes their account, we remove their personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to keep records (for example, Stripe transaction logs for tax purposes).

Angler inquiries are retained for up to 24 months to support dispute resolution and abuse detection, then deleted or anonymized.

Security

We use industry-standard practices — TLS in transit, encrypted database storage, scoped API credentials, and least-privilege access for staff. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to make a breach unlikely and to limit the blast radius if one occurs. If we discover a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours.

Children's Privacy

Unreel Charters is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, please email us and we will delete it.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information (subject to legal exceptions).
  • Opt out of non-transactional marketing emails at any time.
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@unreelcharters.com. We will respond within 30 days.

California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, to request that we delete it, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

We do not sell personal information. We do share limited technical information with Meta for advertising, as described above. We have configured the Meta Pixel with Meta's Limited Data Use setting, which restricts how Meta may process information about California visitors.

To opt out of this sharing, either enable Global Privacy Control in your browser, or email privacy@unreelcharters.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for significant changes, email registered captains. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
