About Bowfishing

Bowfishing charters trade the rod and reel for a bow, a line reel and a barbed arrow. Guides run flat-bottomed boats with raised shooting decks through marshes, bayous, rivers and lakes, and many trips go out at night under banks of lights that make fish easy to see in shallow water.

What you can shoot depends on the state, but trips center on invasive and rough fish such as carp, gar and buffalo. Most game fish are protected from bowfishing, so a good guide knows exactly what is legal on their water and keeps you on the right side of the rules.

Guides usually supply the bows, arrows and lights, and first-timers pick it up fast. Many bowfishing outfits also run alligator or hog hunts in season. Every captain on Unreel sets their own rate and pays zero booking commission.
